About the Role
Swift Shift Recruitment is currently seeking experienced and reliable Care Home Cooks to work across a range of care and nursing homes. This role is ideal for chefs who understand the importance of nutrition, consistency, and food safety in a healthcare setting.
You’ll be responsible for preparing high-quality, nutritious meals tailored to residents’ dietary needs while maintaining strict hygiene standards.
Key Responsibilities
Prepare and cook meals for residents in line with dietary requirements (e.g. soft diets, allergies, diabetic meals)
Plan and follow set menus, ensuring variety and nutritional balance
Maintain high standards of food hygiene and kitchen cleanliness
Ensure all food is stored, handled, and prepared in compliance with food safety regulations
Manage stock, rotation, and portion control to minimise waste
Work efficiently during service times, including breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Communicate effectively with care staff regarding residents’ needs.

Requirements
Requirements
Previous experience as a cook or chef (care home or similar environment preferred)
Knowledge of special dietary requirements and allergen awareness
Level 2 Food Hygiene Certificate (minimum)
Ability to work independently and manage a kitchen
Strong organisational and time management skills
Reliable, punctual, and adaptable to different kitchen environments
Desirable
Experience working in care homes, hospitals, or schools
NVQ Level 2/3 in Professional Cookery or equivalent
Understanding of IDDSI framework (texture-modified diets)
