About the Role
We're currently working with our client, a growing engineering and manufacturing business based in Newry, on the appointment of an Engineering Manager.
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced mechanical engineer to take a lead role within a growing business, with responsibility for product development, engineering standards and the ongoing improvement of its machinery products.
The role is very hands-on. You'll be involved throughout the product lifecycle, from initial concept and SolidWorks modelling through to prototyping, testing, manufacturing drawings, BOMs and production release.
You'll work closely with Production to improve quality, build times, material costs and manufacturability, while also taking ownership of technical issues, root-cause analysis and corrective design actions.
You'll also lead a small engineering team, setting priorities and supporting the development of two engineers, while working closely with senior management, production, suppliers, customers and other internal teams.
The Role
• Lead mechanical product development from concept through to production
• Produce and develop 3D models, manufacturing drawings and BOMs
• Support prototyping, testing and production activity
• Provide technical support and troubleshoot machinery-related issues
• Drive improvements across quality, cost, reliability and manufacturability
• Lead root-cause analysis and corrective engineering actions
• Manage and develop a small engineering team
• Work closely with Production, Sales, suppliers and customers
• Provide technical recommendations directly to senior management
• Support continuous improvement and design-for-manufacture initiatives
Requirements
• 7+ years' relevant mechanical/design engineering experience
• Strong experience developing machinery or mechanical products from concept to production
• Strong 3D SolidWorks experience, including manufacturing drawings and BOMs
• Strong hydraulics knowledge and practical electrical understanding
• Experience with steel fabrication, machining and prototyping
• Strong understanding of design for manufacture
• Experience with machinery troubleshooting and root-cause analysis
• Previous experience leading projects and/or managing or mentoring engineers
• Commercial awareness with an understanding of cost, quality and production efficiency
Benefits
• Strong benefits package in place
• £60,000 - £80,000 depending on experience
• Monday–Thursday: 7:30am–5:00pm, Friday finish at 2:00pm.
